Passing- Short film

Passing-Short Film

This is a meaningful short films which takes advantage of using mise en scene to deliver bright colorful shots when needed and then able to create a binary opposite at the end shot. The cinematography connects with the locations and visuals it is trying to portray however there are some shots (such as the pan shot from the old man to the young male protagonist) that felt a little rushed. another example being of when one shop worker exits the shot only to have returned back into the foreground in the next one. If I had had the chance to do this I would have changed the name of the title as I believe it gives too much away about the young mans intentions at the end; on the contrary it is very well done short film and the length time is just right.

Awake short film

Awake-Short Film

I Loved the twist In this film because the director allow you to assume a stereotypical plot, when it turns out to be completely different. I enjoyed the hints along the way, which will only be picked up at the end of the short film. the camera has well framed shots such at 0:31, 0:41, 1:58 and 2:00 are a few examples. these allow the spectator to engage in the scenery and story, allowing clues to build up along the way.

Magnetic-Short Film

Magnetic-Short Film

I enjoyed the use of depth in this film and I like how the young protagonist learns that you cannot attract everyone. The use of colour is also key into making this film visually pleasing as well as the use of dolly shots made the film look more professional. The crane shots also ensured this film looked presentable and allowed the main protagonist to look isolated at the workplace. The director also does a great job in making the Protagonist seem quite obsessive however once he realizes he cannot win everyone over his persona changes. The other female protagonist allows him to see that he had someone who liked him all along but he was so obsessed with pleasing the other girl he completely ignored her.

The Anti-Social Network

The Anti-Social Network

I like this short film because of it's narrative and the way it directs its attention to a problem that could soon become a worldwide issue. The opening scene highlights the obscurity some people go to publicly post their lives in front of the entire world rather than live in privacy. It also focus on how our social lives' have drastically changed from going out with friends after work to visiting a popular website. The use of framing at 3:13 is how two electronic items are being used at once and how beautiful areas such as the skyline at 11:25 can be discovered though just turning off your phone. I love the use of de-saturated colours for when our protagonist is going about his 'social' life but when he meets an interesting girl his world is restored to full of colour. I also enjoyed the uses of effects such as 'liking' a page can be seen in the real world and declining requests that are tagged onto that particular person who asked about it.

John Mayer- Queen of Claifornia

John Mayer- Queen of California
This music video is intriguing because it is all done in one shot with one camera. What is impressive is the clever changes through using different guitars and smooth transitions from the cities to the snow and to the woods. Although the video does not entirely link to the song it conveys the idea of moving through different stories and areas in order to get to California, where the protagonist (the singer) is travelling to.

TELL short film

TELL- Short Film
I love the film TELL because of it's suspense and use of lighting to add layers to the story as well as the use of interesting characters. I also find that the angle of the mirrors is an interesting affect to portray the antagonist in a more sinister way thus showing his true intentions. The power of the sound is important as well to this short film and I confess to have jumped at some points because of the intensity of the music!
