Lighting for shoot

Lighting for Shoot

For our shoot we decided we will need a strong light in order to highlight the areas in the background of the frame. We were hoping to have a light go off in the background of our protagonist or have it help him define himself away from the background and into the foreground. The light is easy to turn off and on and has 200w of power available on battery.

The Super 8 Top Mount we will be using has over two metres of cable which makes it easy to manipulate the light or change its direction on test shoot day.

After

This photo demonstrates the power the light has on the wall. it is not a good light for lighting figures because the light is quite blinding however it will help our subject be more defined from the background.

Revolution - The Power Goes Out Clip

Revolution - The Power Goes Out Clip

This sequence demonstrates how many people would react once the power goes out. Although this is over the top the drama is concise with the emotion we wish to create. As we only have one protagonist we will have to convey the fear not through dialogue but through the emotion shown on the face of the character as he slowly realizes that the world is slowly changing in front of his eyes.

Lighting
The contrast in lighting is significant after the power cuts out.
Camera
The stunning visuals increase as the power goes out. We can use this in our film to signify the change in the atmosphere as the boy goes from being calm in the mundane to unnerved in the darkness.
Sound
There is no diegetic sound for the opening thirty seconds of the sequence. The sound effects increase in loudness during this duration only to suddenly pick up again with stunning visuals to increase the impact of the electricity.

Blackout: The Power Outage That Left 50 Million Without Electricity

Blackout: The Power Outage that Left 50 Million Without Electricity

This is a interview with the people involved in the 2003 blackout in America. It effected over 50 million people across the country and it was a superposed 'wake up call to the nation' and 'We have a real crisis in our grid, and this is why, despite being a superpower, we have a grid that is comparable to a third world country and that's not right'

This was a good insight into the aftermath of our film. The footage helped us see into the lives of the people affected which helped us create a realistic character. The panic that erupts form the outside world can be hinted at the end of our film with a dramatic ring, signaling the end of normality.

Sound effects Freesound

Sound Effects from Free sound

Sound effects are important to our film as they will allow the viewer to get across the actions our protagonist takes. By adding in these effects we can over react on the sound effects and get across the audience that the technology we use for electricity is wrong and brings to question if we take electricity for granted.

Before and After Shots of Reflector

Before and After Shots of Reflector

The fourth and fifth shots are the ones that where used with the golden reflector, giving a warmer feel with a tungsten look to match the lights. Although the white was good to highlight the features on the face (Such as close ups etc.) the gold will be useful for wider shots such as the fifth shot (Medium Long shot)

Here is the before shot with no reflector and only the light behind

Here is the after shot with the white reflector diffusing the light evenly over my brother's face. It evens out the shadows and allows us to see his face more.

This is the reflector (90X120CM) which my dad held for me while I took the shots. While one of us is working on the camera another member of the crew can hold the reflector while the shot is being taken.

Here is another before shot with a singular light above my brothers head. This time I used the golden reflector to bounce the light from the lamp above and onto my brother's face.

The after shot shows this gives a warmer feeling to the shot and distinguish him from the background and into the foreground. This concept is a good idea to use particularly if we are using blue lighting, however when we meet up to experiment we shall see if effect works with the low lighting or will create an entirely new effect with our camera.

Equipment for shoot

Equipment for Shoot

I went out and bought this reflector for our shoot Grid. One of our problems was that the lighting was not bright enough to show the actors face. to solve this problem I have bought this reflector which will bounce the light off and onto the actor. By doing so it will brighten the light onto the actors/Talents face and diffuse the amount of light being sent to his face. This will come in handy when we trial this in our next test shoot because we will be able to experiment with different light sources and the way it bounces onto our actor/Talent.

Incompetech

Incompetech

Incomeptech is the website we have decided to use for our music. We will also be using Freesound.org in order to get realistic sound effects for our video. Listed below are the music snippets we would like to experiment with in post-Production.

We decided as a group that we wanted an unnerving feel to the music to correlate with the feeling of dread in the initial blackout. 'Reign supreme' is a wind driven piece that uses a mixture of horns, bass, Chellos and violins to drive the music to a cinematic end. other music clips such as 'Controlled chaos- No Percussion' use synths which sounds very computer like. This could be used for our opening Titles and to unnerve our audience into the drama genre.
