No Electricity- Secondary Research
I investigated using the internet to find opinions on the theory of a vast power cut. As I was watching YouTube I came across an interesting comedian called George Carlin. I will not put the video up because of the swearing involved but I will point out some interesting points he put across in his sketch.
Carlin did a sketch on life before and after the power goes off. Carlin stated there would be no food and water, or anywhere to keep it refrigerated for that matter. This surprised me as I had forgotten that clean running water uses electricity to be cleaned and we use electricity to keep our frozen food from going off. What separates us from animals would soon be gone. Security systems would break down and the prisons would open which could cause a major problem if the Grid was not able to turn back on. Eventually policemen would be projecting their own families and not others and everyone would suddenly become suspicious, anxious and want to fend for themselves.
I hope to include this into my film by having the main character and uneasy as the lights go out. Because we have decided we only one on main character I proposed he would approach a window as if he is afraid of reality or the real world and before the title sequence comes up we cut away from the sight he is seeing, possibly riots or panicking people. This quick cutaway will link into our target audience because they expect surprise and quick scenes. By doing this the audience will become hinge onto the plot and become more intrigued into the teenagers situation.
